Outdoor Blinds, Adelaide
An outdoor blind turns a patio into a room. That’s the whole pitch, and in Adelaide it’s the difference between an entertaining area you use a few times a year and one you use from October through to April — and again through winter, out of the wind.
The options
Track-guided blinds run in a channel down each side. No gaps, no flapping, and they hold in wind that would tear a cheaper blind. They’re the most expensive option and the only one I’d fit on an exposed western or southern side.
Rope and pulley or crank blinds cost less and work well on sheltered areas. Simple, reliable, nothing to break.
Cafe blinds are the clear PVC you see on pub courtyards. They keep wind and rain out while you keep the view. Best used with a mesh blind on the sunny side, since clear PVC does nothing for heat.
Choosing the fabric
Mesh cuts sun and glare, lets the breeze through, and you can still see out. The right choice for the hot side of the house.
Clear PVC blocks wind and rain and keeps the view. It doesn’t block heat.
Tinted or smoked PVC splits the difference — weatherproof, with some glare cut.
Most jobs end up mixing them: mesh where the sun hits, clear where the weather comes in.
Why outdoor beats indoor for heat
Once sunlight is through the glass, the heat is already inside and an internal blind can only manage what has already arrived. Stopping the sun outside the window is a completely different proposition — it’s why a shaded patio feels like a different house on a 40-degree day.
What outdoor blinds cost in Adelaide
Driven by width, fabric and the operating system. As a guide, a single patio opening runs about $[X] to $[Y] supplied and installed. Most patios need two or three. I’ll measure the whole area and quote it properly, free.
Common questions
Will they handle Adelaide wind?
Track-guided will. If your area is exposed, don’t buy on price — a cheap blind on a windy patio is a short-term purchase.
Can they be motorised?
Yes, and on a wide opening it’s worth it. Battery or hardwired.
