Roller Blinds, Adelaide

Roller blinds are the most practical window covering you can buy. Simple, affordable, and they suit nearly every room in an Australian house. The part most people get wrong is the fabric — and that’s the part that decides whether you’re happy with them in five years.

Blockout, sunscreen or light filtering?

Blockout stops light coming through the fabric. Bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms, and anywhere someone is sleeping past sunrise. Worth knowing: unless you fit them into the reveal or add a pelmet, light will still come around the edges. If total darkness matters, say so at the measure and we’ll fit them to achieve it.

Sunscreen cuts glare and UV while you can still see out. Living rooms and anywhere with a view worth keeping. During the day you can see out and people can’t easily see in — but that reverses at night once the lights are on, which surprises people. If it’s a street-facing window you use at night, pair it with a blockout on a dual bracket.

Light filtering sits in between: soft, diffused light and full privacy day and night, but no view. Good for bathrooms, hallways and front rooms.

Dual roller blinds

Two blinds on one bracket — sunscreen for the day, blockout for the night. It costs more than a single blind but less than getting it wrong, and for a west-facing living room it’s usually the right answer.

Motorised roller blinds

Motors have come down in price a long way and most people don’t realise it. They’re worth it for high or hard-to-reach windows, for a bank of blinds you want moving together, and for anyone who’d rather not climb. Battery motors mean no wiring and no electrician. Ask at the measure and I’ll price both.

Child safety

All corded blinds are installed to the Australian safety standard, with cleats or tensioners fitted so the cord can’t form a loop. If you’ve got small children, motorised or cordless is worth considering.

Common questions

How long do they take?

Around [3] weeks from order to install. Everything is made to measure, so there’s no off-the-shelf option.

Inside or outside the window recess?

Inside looks neater; outside blocks more light and suits narrow reveals. I’ll tell you which your windows suit when I measure.
